Welbe Health Rapid Deployment - COVID19 2020
Never Has So Much Been Asked of So Few. The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak changed everything for Welbe Health, the country’s first CMS certified PACE provider. PACE stands for Program for All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly. While a significant portion of Welbe’s patients suffer from comorbid conditions that make them critically vulnerable to the COVID19 Coronavirus, under normal conditions these super seniors are able to visit clinics and doctor’s offices for routine and specialty care.
Expanding telehealth services for at-risk patients during a pandemic calls for the right technology and the right partner.
When Providence PACE was faced with COVID-19 care restrictions, they implemented the GrandPad telehealth solution and found not only an answer to their short-term need, but also an opportunity to enhance their capabilities with telehealth and virtual care.

When the reality of COVID-19 hit home early for Prospero Health, the company turned to GrandPad to quickly implement a telehealth strategy that would facilitate virtual care and keep patients and clinicians safe.
PACE Southeast Michigan partners with GrandPad to achieve continuity of care during COVID-19 pandemic
Continuity of care is critical for older adults and patients with chronic or complex conditions. PACE Southeast Michigan used the GrandPad telehealth platform successfully to navigate COVID-19 access restrictions, enhancing the existing patient experience.
Technology Powers Connections for Doctors and Patients
With the novel coronavirus and COVID-19 making in-person visits a health risk, healthcare providers and care delivery organizations had to work quickly to identify solutions that allow them to provide care without exposing themselves or their patients to unnecessary risk. Following is an example of how one healthcare provider has responded to the current situation.
The Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A) serves 9,000 clients in 18 counties with services designed to help them continue living independently. Unfortunately, for many, the COVID-19 pandemic turned that independence to isolation, as they were unable to visit with family or friends and struggled with loneliness and feelings of hopelessness.
PACE at Element Care initially viewed GrandPad as a tool for providing telehealth care during the COVID-19 pandemic. One year later, senior leaders at the Massachusetts-based nonprofit healthcare organization recognize that equipping participants with a powerful communications platform has benefits that will continue long after the company is able to return to in-person care.
Travel, adventure, and lifelong learning often fall by the wayside as people age. This may be due to health issues, lack of mobility, or lack of funding to pay for such activities. For PACE (Programs of All- Inclusive Care for the Elderly) participants, many of whom are considered low income with multiple chronic health conditions, these factors all present impediments to experiencing the world.
